Here at the SMTC Radiology Department, we pride ourselves on providing premium quality medical imaging services to both patients and referring clinicians. We have invested heavily in state-of-the-art imaging technology, and our Department is staffed by highly experienced Radiographers and Radiologists. Our services include: MRI, X-rays and Ultrasound.
For all external imaging referrals, we are committed to:
We welcome referrals from clinicians operating in both the NHS and Independent Healthcare Sectors.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive way to take pictures of the body. Unlike X-rays and CT scans, which use radiation, MRI uses powerful magnets and radio waves. The MRI scanner contains the magnet.
X-rays are high-energy radiation. They are able to create an image on a photographic film or plate. It is this property that allows radiography.
Ultrasound are high-frequency sound waves. Ultrasound waves can be ‘bounced off’ human tissues using special devices. The echoes are then converted into a picture called a sonogram. Ultrasound imaging, referred to as ultrasonography, allows doctors and patients to get an inside view of soft tissues and body cavities, without using invasive techniques.
