What is a Cataract?

A cataract is a loss of transparency, or clouding, of the normally clear lens of the eye.

Some common symptoms of cataracts may include:

  • Painless blurring of vision
  • Sensitivity to light and glare
  • Double vision in one eye
  • Poor night vision
  • Fading or yellowing of colours
  • Frequent changes in glasses or contact lens prescription.

The only treatment for cataract is surgical removal.  You will experience moderate pain after surgery.  However the medical staff will ensure your pain is under control.

Most people do not need to stay overnight in hospital.
