Mr Melki obtained his PhD in molecular physiology and biophysics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, USA, where he subsequently completed his MD in May 1994. He completed his Transitional Internship and Residency in Ophthalmology at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC and became Chief Resident, Ophthalmology.
In July 1998 Mr Melki was Clinical Fellow, Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston, and was Chief Fellow between 1999 and July 2000.
Since July 2000, Mr Melki has been on the clinical faculty at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Boston Eye Group, Brookline, Massachusetts. In 2004, he held a Visiting Professorship at Georgetown University Medical Centre.
Mr Melki joined Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre as Medical Director, Ophthalmology in July 2005.
