Mr La Malfa undertook his medical education in Rome before relocating to Antwerp in Belgium where he completed his training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of Antwerp.
After completing his studies and achieving the status of Consultant Anaesthetist Mr La Malfa worked at the University Hospital specialising in anaesthesia for day surgery and loco-regional anaesthesia.
In 2004 Mr La Malfa moved to the UK, working as Consultant Anaesthetist within the Princess Alexandra NHS Trust in Harlow. In October 2004 he joined the Department of Health initiative ‘GSup’ contract providing anaesthetics for NHS patients within the Nuffield hospitals in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and North Staffordshire.
At the end of the ‘Gsup’ contract he joined Interhealth Canada as Lead Anaesthetist, providing anaesthetics for five years at the Kidderminster NHS Treatment Centre. During that tenure Mr La Malfa carried out more than 6,000 anaesthetic procedures within orthopaedics, including minor and major procedures.
In June 2011 Mr La Malfa was appointed by UKSH as Clinical Director for Anaesthetics. He is a member of the Belgian Association for Loco Regional Anaesthesia (Bara) and the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (Esra). To date Mr La Malfa has presented his works and studies at the Esra Congresses (in Rome and in Porto), in New York at the Nysora Congress, as well as in Hungary and Kiev.
