Plymouth, Tuesday 1 June, 2010: UK Specialist Hospitals Ltd is pleased to announce that following a competitive tender process, it has been awarded the contract to operate the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth by NHS Plymouth.
UKSH is a leading provider of healthcare in the South West and has treated over 40,000 NHS patients to date and operates four treatment centres in the region. UKSH has been delivering high quality healthcare to NHS patients since 2005, when it opened the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre (Somerset). In November 2009, it opened three more treatment centres for the NHS, at Emersons Green (Bristol), Devizes (Wiltshire) and Cirencester (Gloucestershire).
UKSH will be working closely with NHS Plymouth to take over the management of the centre from the existing provider on 1 August 2010. During the transition, it will be very much business as usual and any impact on service delivery will be kept to an absolute minimum. UKSH envisages that all local staff will transfer across with the business.
Commenting on the announcement, Fiona Calnan, Chief Executive of UKSH, said, "I am extremely pleased that we have secured the contract to operate the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre and look forward to welcoming the local team, into the UKSH group. This success endorses our proven track record of delivering high quality care to every patient we treat."
The Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre, which opened 2005, offers routine orthopaedic procedures such as hip and knee replacements, shoulder repairs and other hand and elbow surgery for adult patients from Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth and Torbay.
