UK Specialist Hospitals welcomes patients to the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth

Published August 17th 2010

UK Specialist Hospitals Ltd has welcomed its first NHS patients to the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre in Plymouth after officially taking over management of the centre on 1 August 2010.

The centre provides orthopaedic treatments for NHS patients in Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall, and gives local patients more choice of where they can receive their NHS treatment.

The Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre offers routine orthopaedic procedures such as hip and knee replacements, shoulder repairs and other hand and elbow surgeries. Patients can choose to receive their treatment at the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre by discussing their treatment options with their GP.

UKSH was awarded the contract to operate the centre in June 2010 and has worked closely with NHS Plymouth to ensure a smooth transition process from the existing provider.

During the first week of August, the centre has been refreshed to provide a better patient experience.

Commenting on the successful transformation, Fiona Calnan, Chief Executive of UKSH, said, “We have a great team at the Peninsula NHS Treatment Centre and I know they will deliver high quality care to all our patients”.

UKSH is a leading provider of healthcare in the South West and has treated more than 45,000 NHS patients to date and now operates five treatment centres in the region. UKSH has been delivering high quality healthcare to NHS patients since 2005, when it opened the Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre (Somerset). In November 2009, it opened three more treatment centres for the NHS, at Emersons Green (Bristol), Devizes (Wiltshire) and Cirencester (Gloucestershire).
