UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) has achieved ISO 27001 certification for its information security management, reflecting its commitment towards protecting patient information.
The management of confidentiality, integrity and availability of information all form part of information security systems, which means having tight controls over who can access information as well as how it is accessed. At UKSH, a significant proportion of information relates to patients, and therefore maintaining security in this way is a top priority.
The ISO 27001, the leading international standard for the secure management of information, was published by the International Organisation for Standardisation in 2005.
The UKSH model was designed to guarantee the highest level of protection for patient information and after rigorous assessment programmes at its four treatment centres, this commitment has been recognised by UKSH's accreditation from the British Standards Institution (BSI).
UKSH’s Emersons Green, Cirencester and Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centres have been certified, and Devizes NHS Treatment Centre has been recommended for certification. All clinical assessment and treatment services will now bear the BSI Kitemark, an internationally recognised symbol of quality and safety.
UKSH is committed to continuing to develop its processes to maintain high levels of security and confidentiality. BSI will also conduct follow-up reviews at all UKSH treatment centres to ensure that the high standards set continue to be adhered to.
