Professor Peter Hutton, FRCA, FRCP, F.Med.Sci

Current Role

Professor of Anaesthesia in the University of Birmingham and Honorary Consultant at the University Hospital Birmingham

Professor Hutton is also currently the Independent Consultant member on the Prescription Medicine Code of practice Authority Appeal Board and is joint clinical lead for unscheduled care for NHS London.

Experience

21 years as Clinical Professor at the University of Birmingham. In addition Professor Hutton has been Chairman of the Clinical Board of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, worked with the Department of Health and served on a number of public bodies including the General Medical Council, the Specialist Training Authority, the Standing Medical Advisory Group, and the NHS Modernisation Board.

  • Former President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (2002-2003)
  • Former Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (2002-2004)
  • Chair of the Home Office’s Ethics Group set up to make recommendations on the ethical aspects of forensic DNA Analysis
  • Member of the Bar Standards Board

Education

Professor Hutton obtained his BSc, PhD and MBChB from the University of Birmingham
