Dr Abumrad is currently the John L. Sawyers Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee.
Previously, he has held the roles of Chief of Surgical Services at the Tennessee Veterans Administration Medical Centre in Nashville; Chairman of the Department of Surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, New York; Co-Chairman of the Department of Surgery at New York University Langone Medical Centre in New York City; Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook; as well as Acting Dean of the SUNY School of Medicine.
Dr Abumrad received his medical doctorate from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and completed his surgical residency at the State University of New York in Syracuse.
