Miss Friedrichs qualified as doctor from the Medical School Carl Gustav Carus in Dresden, Germany in 1993, where she achieved full marks with summa cum laude.
In 1995 Miss Friedrichs moved to the UK. After her basic surgical training at Medway and Southampton General Hospital, she became an Honorary Research Fellow at the MRC Institute of Hearing Research in Southampton. Whilst undertaking her basic surgical training she passed her MRCS through the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

In 2001, she began the South Thames Training Rotation as a Specialist Registrar. She passed her intercollegiate specialty examination during her rotation in 2006 and achieved her CCT in 2007. During her higher surgical training she gained an excellent grounding in basic and super-specialist ENT surgery. She also used the opportunity to gain additional training in facial plastic surgery abroad as a visiting Fellow at the Marien Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany and in skull base surgery at the Neuroscience Institute in Hannover, Germany.

Miss Friedrichs has been published in over 15 articles in peer reviewed journals and has given numerous international and national presentations on all aspects of ENT surgery. She was also awarded the Skull Base Travelling Scholarship of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Since 2007 she has worked as Locum ENT Consultant at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, St. George's and Mayday Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital before joining UKSH as Consultant ENT Surgeon in 2011.
