Dr Mavrodiev graduated from the Medical Faculty of P J Safarik University in Slovakia in 1995. He trained in anaesthesia and intensive medicine at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine of Slovak Health University in J A Reiman Hospital, Presov, Slovakia.

After becoming a specialist in 2002, he developed a special interest in regional anaesthesia and helped to introduce it into daily clinical practice in orthopaedics, trauma surgery, vascular surgery and obstetrics. He also lectured in regional anaesthesia.

In 2005 he moved to the UK to work as a Consultant Anaesthetist in the Greater Manchester Surgical Centre (NHS Treatment Centre), Manchester, where he acted as a Lead Consultant Anaesthetist during 2007 and 2008.
