Devizes NHS Treatment Centre Moves Closer to Opening

Devizes NHS Treatment Centre Moves Closer to Opening

UKSH takes possession of brand new facility ahead of schedule.

The forthcoming Devizes NHS Treatment Centre was officially handed over, ahead of schedule, to UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH). The handover of the Treatment Centre brings residents of Devizes and Wiltshire another step closer to more local healthcare services and greater choice in the area.

Pictured at the handover of the new Treatment Centre were (from left) Alison Knowles, Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications, NHS Wiltshire; Devizes Town Councillor Paula Winchcombe; Fiona Calnan, CEO of UKSH and Councillor Keith Humphries.

Taking possession of the purpose built facility is a significant landmark for UKSH, a leading edge independent sector healthcare company, as it marks the first building completion of its three NHS Treatment Centres opening this year as part of its South West expansion. The other two facilities, in Cirencester and Emersons Green are due to be completed in the coming months.

NHS patients have the right to choose where they receive treatment, and can discuss the suitable options with their GP. From November, NHS patients will be able to choose to have their treatment at Devizes NHS Treatment Centre.

The day surgery services for NHS patients offered at the facility will include:

General Surgery

Ophthalmology

Hand and Foot Surgery

Ear, Nose and Throat Procedures

Gynaecology

Urology

Dental Surgery

Jeff James, CEO Wiltshire PCT commented: "This is an important milestone in the development of Devizes NHS Treatment Centre. Wiltshire people tell us that it's important to have prompt local access to high quality services. Soon that hope will become real when the Treatment Centre receives its first patient in November. UKSH has done a great job in getting the Centre developed and we look forward to continuing our partnership when the Centre is up and running and Wiltshire people have a new local choice of high quality NHS care."

UKSH CEO Fiona Calnan added: "Our new treatment centre will offer more healthcare choice in Devizes and the surrounding communities. We are now looking forward to the treatment centre opening, and to seeing local patients arriving to experience the high quality care and low wait times that are part of UKSH's track record."

Recruitment for Devizes NHS Treatment Centre began last month and there has been a fantastic response to UKSH's local recruitment drive which included a nursing open day held at the Castle Hotel in Devizes. The Treatment Centre will employ approximately 20 local nurses and doctors and four administrative staff. There will also be 130 staff employed at the UKSH South West in Emersons Green.
