Care Quality Commission recognises patient centred service at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre

25 April 2012

Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre is meeting all requirements of quality and safety of care according to a recent report from the Care Quality Commission, the independent regulator of health and adult social care services in England.

The treatment centre was assessed on six ‘essential standards’ of care. The CQC inspectors found that patients are treated with respect and fully involved in their care; consent is sought from the patient before treatment; care is safe and appropriate; patients are protected from abuse; staff are properly trained and have the opportunity to develop their skills; effective risk-management processes are in place.

Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre is run by UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH), the provider which was listed first nationally for knee replacement surgery and third for hip replacement surgery in the 2011 Dr Foster Hospital Guide – the UKs leading data report on hospital performance.

The report details the findings of the CQC’s recent inspection of the treatment centre and also identifies some responses they received from patients.

One patient said “I was touched by the skills of the staff, nothing was too much trouble.”
Other patients said when they went for their initial assessment, the surgeons explained the options available and they were given advice based on the information from test results and x-rays. The risks were explained so that they could make informed decisions.

Pam Mackie, Registered Manager, commented: “At Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre we pride ourselves on patient care and always ensure that everyone feels welcomed, comfortable and fully involved in decisions about their care. The CQC report demonstrates the hard work of our staff and shows that we are succeeding in our aim to deliver a quality and efficient service to NHS patients.”

NHS patients can be referred to the treatment centre for procedures within specialities such as minor and major orthopaedics, ophthalmology, endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, ear nose and throat, urology, diagnostics and dental extraction.
The centre provides NHS patients with rapid access to a range of daycase and inpatient surgical procedures.
