Devizes NHS Treatment Centre’s high standards of care have been recognised in a recently published report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and adult social care services in England.
The treatment centre, which is operated by UK Specialist Hospitals (UKSH) and provides NHS patients with swift access to a range of daycase surgical procedures, was inspected by the CQC during February. The CQC’s report confirms the centre’s compliance with all quality and safety of care measures audited.
The inspection assessed Devizes NHS Treatment Centre on five ‘essential standards’ of care. They found that patients are treated with respect and fully involved in their care; care is safe and appropriate; it is delivered in a clean environment; staff are well managed and effective risk-management processes are in place.
The CQC also spoke to patients who were being prepared for surgery and others who were in the recovery area at the treatment centre following surgery. All of the people they spoke to were full of praise for the hospital and its staff. They told the CQC that at every stage of their care and treatment they had been treated with care and courtesy and that they thought the hospital was clean, welcoming and efficiently run.
Kevin Walsh, Registered Manager, commented: “At Devizes NHS Treatment Centre we are committed to ensuring patients feel welcomed, valued and fully involved in their care. This excellent report reflects the hard work of our staff in maintaining high clinical standards while delivering a friendly and efficient service.”
NHS patients can be referred to the treatment centre for procedures within specialities such as minor orthopaedics, ophthalmology, endoscopy, general surgery, gynaecology, ear nose and throat, urology, diagnostics and dental extraction. The treatment centre also offers outpatient assessments for hip and knee replacement surgery, with surgery and associated inpatient stay at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre, its sister-site in North Bristol.

o people should be cared for in a clean environment and protected from infection risks
o staff should be properly trained and supervised, and have the chance to develop and improve their skills
o the service should have quality checking systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care.
