A new look on life

I was very interested to read your piece "Eye clinic welcomes 20,000th patient", October 18, about eye surgeon Javad Moayedi.

I was a recent patient myself at the Shepton Mallet Treatment Centre - both eyes with cataracts removed at two separate appointments with a two to three week gap in between - and I decided to have new Tecnis intra-ocular lenses implanted to correct my short sight at the same time.

At the moment this procedure is not funded by the NHS (though of course normal cataract removal is) but speaking as someone who has worn specs for 50 years and now doesn't have to wear them at all, I can only say what a wonderful "new look on life" this is.

The centre itself is impressively clean, the staff friendly, unhurried and most reassuring to a nervous patient who remains awake throughout each brief (15 to 20 minute) procedure, and Mr Moayedi's skill and care at balancing the strength of the lenses that he implants is simply awesome.

This letter appeared in the Shepton Mallet Journal of 25th October 2007.
